Good morning, DMV. Today’s edition is about the cheapest competitive advantage in local business: answering fast.

💡 The big idea: speed beats polish

You can lose a job to a competitor with worse reviews, a worse website, and a higher price — simply because they picked up the phone first. A lead who just submitted your form is at peak interest for about five minutes. After that, every hour of silence is a discount you’re handing the other guy. The fix isn’t more marketing; it’s a follow-up system that fires every time, no matter how busy the day gets.

Today we published the full playbook: The Lead Follow-Up SOP: What to Do in the First 5 Minutes After a Lead Comes In — minute-by-minute steps plus copy-paste call, text, and email scripts.

✅ Three moves from today’s SOP

  • Call first, then text, then email — in the same five minutes. The triple-touch on day one is what separates “we tried them” from “they never got back to me.”
  • Never close the tab without a next action. Every lead gets a scheduled follow-up with a date before you move on. A lead without a next step is already lost.
  • Log the lead source every single time. Six months from now, that one field tells you which marketing pays and which just feels busy.

⚡ 5-minute quick win

Write your no-answer text message right now and save it as a template in your phone: “Hi [name], it’s [you] from [business] — just tried you about your [service] request. Reply with a good time and I’ll call you then.” That’s it. The next missed connection becomes a scheduled call instead of a dead lead.
