AHD Daily — The Page You Never Built Edition

Good morning from All Hype Digital.
Open your website and try to find the page that would convince somebody one town over that you actually come out there.
Most owners find a line in the footer. “Proudly serving DC, Maryland, and Virginia.” That line is on every page of your site, which is exactly why it counts for almost nothing on any of them.
A list of towns is not a page
Nobody searches “DC, Maryland, and Virginia.” They search “plumber in Takoma Park” and “emergency AC repair Alexandria VA.” Those are page level searches, and Google answers them with pages.
The footer also answers the wrong question. A customer already assumes you exist. What they want to know is whether you come to their street, how fast, and what it costs to get started. Twenty two town names in six point type answers none of that.

Build one, not thirty
Here is where owners overcorrect. They hear “page per town” and publish 40 near identical pages in a weekend with the town name swapped out.
Google calls those doorway pages and treats them as spam. We have watched DMV sites go backwards doing it. Three to five real pages will always beat forty thin ones.
Real means one town in the headline, the services you honestly do there, your real response time, one review from somebody in that area, and three questions you actually get asked on the phone by people from there. If adding a page to your site is a hassle in the first place, that is usually the real reason this never gets built, and a platform like UENI makes it a ten minute job instead of a project.

The part nobody can copy from you
Every section of that page is fill in the blank except one: what makes working in that specific town different.
Parking and loading in DC. Permit differences between Arlington and Fairfax County. HOA approvals in Ashburn. Older housing stock in parts of Silver Spring and what that means for your work. Three sentences of that is worth more than three paragraphs of anything else on the page, because your competitor cannot write it without doing your job first.
One more thing while you are at it. If you do not currently know which page a caller came from, you are guessing about all of this. Lead tracking like WhatConverts ties the call back to the page, which turns “I think the website is working” into a number.
Do this today
Pick the one town where you want more work and currently have the least of it. Not the biggest market. The one with the best gap between what you want and what you have.
Then write the local knowledge section, in your own words, badly, in fifteen minutes. That is the whole hard part. Everything else on the page is a form you fill out.
